Price (The total price includes everything except the sales tax), what was the amount of the sales tax?
Please help this is written tricky!!!

total price + tax = 5600
tax = 8% of total price = 0.08 * total price
total price + 0.08*total price = 5600
1.08* total price = 5600
total price= 5600/1.08 = 5185.19
since total price + tax = 5600
tax = 5600 - 5185.19 = $414.815

Single mother needs a car to get to work but with 8% sales tax can't afford a car. Welfare. Elderly man who needs a walker to get around. On fixed income (low) has to pay 8% sales tax. Forget the walker he'll hobble around or lie on the sidewalk when he falls until someone picks him up. Great Grandma, a widow, proud of her great grandchild getting married. Wants to buy a wedding gift. Fixed income. She gets a card because she can't handle the 8% sales tax on the purchase. The government has already mandated states spend money for homeland security and the federal government still hasn't paid for it. So the 2/3 may not get to the state and local govt. anyway. Also what is to keep the feds from telling locals how to spend taxes and witholding money when state and local govt. doesn't do exactly as requested by the federal govt. ?

100%=5600.00
1%=56
8%=56X8=448=$448.00 Dollars sales tax
The total price with out sales tax =5600-448=5152
$51512.00 Dollers ok

What I did is Multiplied $5600.00 by 1.08 and got $448.00
The price of the car is $5,152
You add $5152 and $448.00 and you get $5600

the equation is 5600 =1.08*X (X is the price of the car without the tax...)
isolate X
5600/1.08 = X
do the math...
5185.19 = X
The car sells for $5185.19 and the tax comes to $414.81

TotalPrice = Price + SalesTax
5600 = Price + .08*Price
5600 = 1.08*Price
5600 / 1.08 = Price
5185.19 = Price

sales tax=8%* price car=$56*8=$448
total payed= sales tax+price car
$5600=0.08*price car+price car
$5600=1.08*price car
price car= $5600/1.08
price car=$5185.19
sales tax= 8%*$5185.19=$414.81
