The only time I've ever heard of a birthmark being removed was a family friends daughter had a wine colored birthmark covering part of her face. When she hit middle school people started teasing her horribly about it to the point that she started to refuse to attend school and was emotionally devastated. The doctors removed it since it was causing her so much emotional distress even though it wasn't physically harmful to her. She was around 12-13 but I was led to understand it was a special case since she was almost to the point of mental problems the teasing was so bad. Personally I've got about 4-5 birthmarks and I've never even bothered to think about getting them removed. I have one of the back of each knee, one on my stomach *my sis has an identical one there as well*, and a large one that starts just before my hairline on the back of my neck and covers a good portion of the back of my head. My daughter has an very similar, although smaller, one on the back of her head as well. If they aren't causing emotional distress or health issues then there's really no reason to remove them.

I just had the exact same surgery a little while ago. The operation took about 20 minutes or so (for me) and my mum was there holding my hand the whole time. I didn't feel too much, it kind of just felt like some needles.. but they gave me a lot of anthestetic. I did feel a little woozy after, so if you're working I suggest you take the rest of the day off. The stitches aren't painful, just be sure not to stretch whatever skin they're covering. I was actually playing sports at the time so I was out for the rest of the season. The only thing that hurt was when I ripeed my stitches. It left a big scar but it isn't that noticable now. Good luck with the surgery! I'm sure you'll do great :D xoxo shelbs

It is your sons decision, not yours... to remove the birthmark. Most doctors/surgeons wouldnt even come close to it until the child is at least 16, unless they suspected it was causing the child harm, or was cancerous... everyone has birthmarks.. why does it concern you?

what on earth are you talking about?
I have a birthmark on my knee and my oldest son has an identical one. My youngest son has a birthmark on his neck and so does his dad.
I LOVE their birthmarks. It's who they are. Unless your child has a large unsightly port wine stain I suggest you start loving your child as he is.

Why would u want to have it removed? If it was a health problem im sure ur doctor would have advised on it. Im sure it does not worry him and if it does get it removed when he asks

Why would you remove it? Do you think it is cancer? If it isn't a health concern why put your child through unnecessary surgery? If later he expresses concern, then consider it. Watch it carefully, have a dematoligist look at it, draw it so you can notice changes and then leave him alone.
