Just about anything by Agatha Christie. She's the premier mystery writer, although Poe wrote a few good short story mysteries.

May as well start at the beginning of the list or jump ahead to Murder on the Orient Express. Believe me they made good movies, but none could hold your attention as well as the books.

Leslie Meier's Lucy Stone mysteries are totally cozy-- they're holiday themed. I also like the Faith Fairchild mysteries by Katherine Hall Page.

I like J.A. Jance's books, especially the JP Beaumont series. They take place in and around Seattle.

try anything by dorothy gilman especially her Mrs. Polifax series.
You might also like the cat who... series. I can't remember the author's name though.
