This probably isn't the right place to post this, i couldn't think of which forum to post this in.....anyway.....
Has anyone here had an I.U.D after a baby?
I'm due in May with our 3rd and i'm sticking with "this is it" lol, it was a hard choice but this is my 3rd in 2 years. So if anyone has had an I.U.D after birth, did it hurt, what's involved? I'm allergic to the pill so this has been weighing on my mind for some time now. I see my doctor next week and i'll talk to him but i wanted personal views on this, so any help would be appreciated :)

I have the Mirena. I did not have it placed right after having a baby. I have five kids and I'm with you on the this is it! I had no pain getting it placed. So far am very pleased with the decision to get it. I haven't had a real period since getting it. Just spotting off and on.

I have the Mirena, actually, it is my second (my "this is it" came long ago!) and I had it put about 6 months after I had given birth.

I'm extremely happy with it and have had no negative side effects, no longer have periods and believe that is is one of the most effective, long lasting forms of birth control.

However, I have had friends that reacted badly to the Mirena, so it might depend on your body.

I wouldn't recommend the classical copper IUD though, I had horrible long periods every two weeks and had it taken out.

Oh, and it does not hurt at all to have either the classic or the Mirena inserted or removed!

Not just after the baby, you should wait for your uterus to
get strong again. After a baby, in my opinion, you should
let your uterus rest and get back to normal before the IUD.
The IUD is not 100% effective, but it is pretty good for
a good number of women.
It involves inserting a probe inside your uterus, measuring
the depth of your uterus and inserting the device.
The device has a thread and they cut it to fit. In case you have
to have it out, they pull from the thread.
The thread in most instances is there and you can't feel it.
Sometimes during intercourse, the men can feel it, some men
can't. It all depends...everyone is different.
It is an effective method, although I have seen people get
pregnant with an IUD.
You feel a slight cramp when inserted. It is done in the
doctor's office just like a Pap Smear.
There are different types, the physician will let you know
which one is best for you. Good Luck!

I didn't get mine at my 6 week check-up. I just had mine put in at the beginning of the month. My youngest is 4 and after trying several different types and I am so far knock on wood, happy with mine. I have the minera and it doesn't bother me and as far as I can tell it's going to be perfect. Oh and it doesn't hurt, they use tubing to insert it and my doctor showed me everything first, there was a little cramping in the first couple hours, but after that it was fine.
