Emo is, as far as I know a style of dressing and a type of music. But to be honest, does he really need a label to describe how he is feeling? 15 is a tough age for most kids, but some do go through phases of being very sad and depressed. As for the issue of you finding him with another boy, maybe he is just experimenting and discovering who he really is. If he IS gay, just be the best parent you can be and support him. He needs to know that you are not judging him and that whatever happens in his life, that you are there to love and support him. Dont force the issue and Im pretty sure he will come through whatever he is going through.

Good luck to you both.

Sounds like he's acting emo (emotional). I have read that some emos really get down start cutting themselves. Discreetly look for scars or cuts on hands, arms, wrists etc. You would need to get him counseling for the cutting.

If he doesn't seem to be harming himself, just continue to monitor him as any parent would. watch for other or any signs of depression. The teen years are tough and kids go through a lot of experimentatin in trying to find themselves and get their wings.

I'm glad you seem to be tolerant if he's possibly gay or bi. Again fooling around with same sex friends is often done by heterosexuals whe they are teens and see their child bodies become adult ones. But it sounds like you will love and understand irregardless of his sexuality.

Asfor making out in his room, I think it is wise to require the same standard with a male as you would with a girl. If you let him make out with girls there, then boys are OK too, if he is leaning that way or both. I'm not going to judge you on what you allow in your home, that;s not right to do and i'm not sure about that one either.

however if you would not let him make out with a girl there, then I think you should be consistent and say no. And explain why.

Continue to be a good and supportive parent and I'm sure he'll do fine.

God Bless and good luck!

Okay..i am 18 and im emo. Emo does = emotional. Not able to bear hurtful feeling as most people can. Always sad and depressed, feelings of worthlessness and suicide are often contemplated and felt. We wear tight cloths...usually black...have long hair to hide our face. Emo guys like me are sensitive and easily hurt, hate the world, we cut our wrist just to feel pain and misery...i have cut along the vain in my wrist and woke up in the er. were passed the point of no return...were at the point where we just wanna die.....its hard to explain...

and not gay for those of you. The boy kissing boy stuff....i dk.....its a emo culture...eww..something i refuse.

Fist of all... don't worry 'bout your son being emo it's just a teenager stage... here is a great definiton I found it on gurl.com

Emo. Short for emotional. Emo. A genre of punk rock. Emo. A dress code of tiny t-shirts and horn-rimmed glasses. Type the word "emo" into your average search engine and you'll get over three million results that will encompass nearly that many different opinions of what emo actually is. The general approach to the term is a lot like the approach to pornography, "I can't tell you exactly what it is, but I'll know it when I see (or hear) it."
The history of emo is somewhat less ambiguous than its current meaning. "Emo" music developed out of the D.C. punk scene in the '80s. In its original incarnation, emo was short for emocore, or emotional-hardcore. The name was applied to hardcore punk rock bands who distinguished themselves from their peers by adding an emotional component to their music, dealing with sadness and love and angst in their lyrics. The music was also characterized by particularly dramatic vocals which, at best, left the audience in an emotionally charged state, crying or screaming. These days, emo has been popularized and sent into the mainstream through bands like Dashboard Confessional, Taking Back Sunday and Saves the Day.

Emo music has even inspired its own subcultural style. Take your average Rites of Spring fan and you get someone who looks a lot like Weezer's Rivers Cuomo--nerdy glasses, vintage tees, cuffed jeans, Converse sneakers and slightly shrunken tops. Black hair and straight bangs, tight hoodies and thrift shop attire are also associated with emo. And while emo devotees are notoriously upfront about their feelings, instead of wearing their hearts on their sleeves, they tend to favor ironic slogans and band logos.

Lately, labeling someone as "emo" is something of a put-down, a stand-in for "overly emotional" or "melodramatic." The implication is that they are excessively moody and angsty, prone to crying jags and plagued by a love of bad poetry. Hot Topic even issued a patch that read, "cheer up, emo kid!" But for those who call themselves emo, the term means something more pure. At its core, emo is all about being upfront with your emotions. Or, as one "expert" defined it, "emo is like being Goth, but much less dark, much more Harry Potter." -- marni
hope it helps! don't worry

Emo is apparently short for 'emotional' - It's just a fad that has hit epidemic proportions! Right now it's 'cool' for kids to wear kinda punk style clothes, like tight black jeans, rock t shirt and dye their hair usually black but sometimes bright colours. The guys usually have short hair at the back and a long fringe that hangs over their eyes. They tend to listen to crappy pop-punk-rock music and look depressed. I wouldn't worry about it too much, it's just hip to be emo at the moment, he's probably just trying to fit in... unless you think he is really, truly depressed - in that case I would try to get him some help because there is a growing trend among kids to self-harm, and that's no good.

OK...Emo is wen u wear dark clothes and u cut and ur very depressed....By him cutting does not mean he wants to kill himself...its just a way to let the pain he is goin through out...it gets ur mind off everythin else and to him it makes him feel better....its not a warning that he is gonna commit suicide...if he wanted to he would of done it by now...just try to get him to talk to u and earn his trust... don’t yell at him and make him feel worst...thatll make the cutting worse...

Never heard of it myself but this is what I found:

Emo (music), a music style previously known as "emotional hardcore" or "emocore"
Emo (slang), a slang term used to describe a wide range of fashion styles and attitudes somewhat affiliated with emo music.

emo is just a phase. emo is emotional. at first it was a style of music like MCR. now it is more of a style. if his attitude is the same do not be worried he is just "scene". lol. why am i emo boy? haha i want to be scene boy now. :p

so if he is still happy and chipper he is just doing it for the style, and the style is hot right now, so goodluck with him
