I don't know why people are saying Mel Gibson's Apocalypto is so controversial. I saw it and think this film is a masterpiece. It depicts the decline of the Maya civilization - the film is entirely in the Yukatek Maya language with English subtitles. Sure, it contains graphic violence and disturbing images, but it's not as bad as they are saying. (I've seen more graphic violence in most horror films.) Kudos to Mel Gibson for his brilliant writing and directing. This is the best film I have seen all year. At least Apocalypto was recognized - it received a Golden Globe nomination for "Best Foreign Language" film.

It's not really all THAT controversial. I mean, nobody's picketing theatres. Nobody's boycotting it. Not many people are really even talking about it all that much. That don't sound like controversy to me. That sounds like 'yawn' bordom.
