Probably in the next 10 - 15 years. That have a lot of good young talent. Carl Crawford is one of the best leadoff hitters in the league. Delmon Young (younger brother of Tiger's 1st basemen Dmitri Young) is an excellent hitter and 1st baseman. He is the same player to throw the bat at the umpire in the minor leagues this year and get suspended for 50 games. However, when he was brought up to the majors, he hit over .340 in his at-bats with decent power numbers. They have a lot of money to spend in the next few years, and they plan to go after more pitching this offseason. I would predict they will break through and have a winning season in the next year or two. I doubt they will ever beat out both the Yankees and the Red Sox, but they can go through the playoffs as a wildcard team.

I am going to say never, and I am being serious. They play in a dreadful stadium, that only draws decent crowds when the Yankees or Red Sox visit. They always have high draft choices, because of their losing records, but most of them never seem to amount to anything (Josh Hamilton), or disappoints (B.J. Upton, an error machine who has spent the last two years in Triple-A after playing a lot for Tampa Bay in 2004). They have Delmon Young, but he is a major headcase, and will be a problem throughout his career.

Tampa Bay gets a lot of revenue-sharing dollars, but who knows what they are doing with it? The owners are probably putting it into their pockets and not into the team where it belongs. I just don't see them being able to compete, ever, with the Yankees and Red Sox. They are a very poorly-run team.

Bryan B--Delmon Young is an outfielder, and a very good one with a strong arm, not a first baseman. He has already blown up at least twice in the minors, and has also let it be knows that he was not happy when the Devil Rays did not call him up at the end of 2005. He's a ticking time bomb waiting to explode. If they are going to win within the next 10-15 years, I highly doubt either Crawford or Young will be there, and the Devil Rays probably won't either. If MLB ever re-visits contraction, this team is a prime candidate to go. Young has already stated that he plans on leaving when his 6 years of service are up, and the ESPN had reported all year that the Devil Rays may eventually trade Crawford.

Most likely not before the franchise gone. That being said the reason is simple, they don't have money for good players and even if they raise good players through their farm system they will lose them to higher paying teams. Now without good players and money it is impossible to get people to pay money to watch a team lose. I on the other hand take advantage of this and get to see the Red Sox play at the Trop for a 1/4 of the price of a bleacher seat at Fenway. Here's a simple equation for the D-rays:

-$ + -Players + -Fans < +$ + +Players + Sellouts = WS

Unfortunately, I'd have to say no unless Tampa has a lot of money, and wants to hire Joe Torre as their manager.

I do think, however, that if they build up their farm teams, they can welcome some young, healthy, athletes to the Big Leagues, and can have those players last longer than A-Rod, or John Damon, etc.

Right now, the D'Rays just need to keep Carl Crawford healthy & keep him under their contract power

In another 20 years or so. They first need to have a winning record in a season as a goal.

Never. The team will just get erased because you've got the Sox, and Yankees, plus the Jays which are playoff contenders.
