Have found a few places such as Teenagers Abroad, but was wondering if anybody had personal experience and recommendations (she would be staying in a "host family" house). Thanks!

My friend did this exchange program summer before last for six weeks. She went as a college freshman, but I'm sure there really isn't any difference except her program coordinator would keep a close eye on them, she used http://www.studiesabroad.com/ . This was the most amazing experience of her life, she learned a lot about herself, and traveled all over Europe on her rail pass. She was met by her program coordinator at the airport, and there were about a dozen other students who were in her group. They stayed with host families, but spent most of their time with their group. If you find a reputable place, it would be an amazing experience for her.

I studied abroad in Spain this last summer (in college), and I loved it. There were also some high school students living in the dorms we stayed in. I was there for two months, but they only came for two weeks. Many high schools have travel groups that go over, maybe one in your city might have one and allow your daughter to go along? There are plenty of places that offer things like this for teens.

Someone above warned about Spain not being safe, but I couldn't disagree more. It's no more unsafe than the US. Unless you put yourself in a dangerous situation you'll be fine.

make sure they keep an eye on her. My friend was a teacher for a class abroad, he says people from Northern Africa talk girls into going away for the weekend, never to be seen again. Tell her not to go anywhere outside safe areas.
