I work in a small factory and for Christmas they always give us a spiral ham (which is great) and a $50 Walmart card- then they take taxes out of our paycheck for the giftcard, so actually we are only getting about $35. I know I should be greatful to get anything and I am, but what do you think about them taking out taxes on a gift?

I have worked places that took the taxes out and it seems a cheat.
Where I work now- a big company- is giving us a spiral cut ham and nothing else. seems like a cheat too, but the last place my husband worked gave nothing. Not even a card. Now that was a CHEAT!

It's crummy. It used to happen to me too when I worked at a medical clinic. What they should do is give you a check worth $60 (or whatever) and then have the taxes come out... leaving you with the full $50.

Oh well, at least you didn't get potholders like I did last year.

I think you should just accept the gift and forget about the taxes... I work at a daycare and at the fall festival we got robbed so now we have no money for a party nor gifts.

its as if they were just giving you $35 so just think of it as a $35 card instead of a $50

You should be lucky to receive a present from your company and thank God. Its okay but maybe they should bear the taxes though and not the staff.
