I Live in NY and called my Stepmother in Cali. Only to find out that our family is in turmoil. She stated that one of my nephews (age16 or 17) was accused by another nephew (5 years old) of being innaproprite. This only came after a doctors vist confirmed the 5 year old might be telling the truth. When confronted the older boy denied it and his mother and father refused to press the issue.
This is all the info I was given. It was not enough to know if the police have been called. Should I call just to be on the safe side? Or should I leave it up to them. ( I don't have contact with either step sister ( the mothers of the nephews)). Should I also cancel my plans to visit if i do call? HELP?

I would like to add that there is a extensive history of sexual abuse in my family. That I know my step sisters will never call the authorities.

"May have" is not enough. The problem is that the publicity and emotional turmoil that will result can destroy the family and the life of the child whether he is innocent or in fact guilty.
If the two nephews are of the same parents, it is a matter for those parents and only those parents to pursue unless there is a witness or professional person with provable facts.
To do otherwise risks not only disaster for the infants and their parents, but adverse legal consequences for the intervenor. If the doctor had such information, he may well have been required to report it. His knowledge, experience and status speak for themselves.
Here is a notorious case of alleged sexual misconduct between a boy and his sister, never proved: http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?sec=travel&res=9F0CE6DC1039F932A15753C1A96F958260&n=Top%2fReference%2fTimes%20Topics%2fSubjects%2fS%2fSex%20Crimes (Ultimately the family fled to Switzerland leaving the boy behind; the Swiss consular officers were left to deal with the Colorado authorities who could prove nothing and the boy was released to return home. The family has since come back to the USA, and is living in another state according to news reports. The whole inbroglio started after a neighbor reported "seeing something".)

You know what I am wondering is why the doctor who confirmed the possibility of abuse didn't report it to DCFS or something. I wouldn't call the police, but I would report it to DCFS anonymously. At this point I would be thinking about the 5 yr. old. And if the parents aren't willing to make sure that this kid is safe, and getting proper treatment then someone needs to step in and protect him. This is a 5 yr. old child!! He doesn't know any better. The older kid does. And I firmly believe that he'll continue his behaviour in the future. He's sick in the head! That's why sex offenders need to register with the law. They can't help themselves!

i comprehend for a incontrovertible reality that if a healthcare professional believes or maybe hears of sexual misconduct adversarial to a baby, non the a lot less has clinical evidence,by regulation he/she ought to record it.effortless and easy. So if the regulation and or CPS has no longer been noted as then both there replaced into no longer a reason to believe that the youngster replaced into being molested,or the youngster replaced into in no way taken to the Dr. i'd visit California, see in case you will get extra suggestion about the challenge and go with your intestine intuition.you're the in problem-free words voice that child will ever have being the heritage of your relations with molestation.

This is not your business. You need to be quiet and let the family in California handle the situation.
They should seek therapy for the boy and you should mind your own business because he may very well be innocent.
Do not call the police. It is up to the boy's parents to call the law or not. Both sets of parents need to get involved to work out what actually happened.
You have no business in this and you could wreck you nephew's life.

That's a really tough question and I really can't tell because I don't know any of these people. I'd say you should probably tell, especially if the issue keeps coming up, because young kids normally don't make that kind of stuff up. Maybe the police can keep you as an anonomus source, but if things get too hot I'd cancel the trip. Good luck.

It is going to cause issue for you in your family but I think you should call. One child has already been hurt, you don't want others to be hurt too. The older nephew needs help and this may be the only way he gets it.

Someone definitely needs to involve the law if this really happened. However, you don't have any firsthand knowledge of anything. Trying to involve yourself in this situation is only going to serve to confuse the actual facts. People actually involved and knowing the firsthand details, like the younger boy's parents, should be the ones to contact the law.

You probably won't have to turn your nephew in because the doctor has probably already done so. By law they are obligated to turn in abuse no matter what kind.

That's messed up. I would call the authorities before he does it to someone else. The fact that his parents arent doing anything is disgusting.
