I'm partial to Medieval and the Early Modern period (1000-1700)...I'm doing my Masters thesis on development of sexuality in Italy in this period.

Only downside is you need to take Latin language exams if you intend to study this area...becoming fluent was a pain in the behind.

Probably Africa because more people have lived in, come out of and continued their cultures in Africa than any other place in the world. Geologically, archaeologically, paleontologically it's the richest treasure trove of history.
