nitrogen must be kept pressurized to be a liquid, and when it is, it is very dangerous. it will instantly freeze your skin if it comes in contact wi it, so its probably not a good idea to be using at home.

If you're doing an at-home science experiment, I suggest using dry ice (solid carbon dioxide.) It does not get as cold as liquid nitrogen, but I can't imagine why a home science project would need temperatures roughly 77 degrees warmer than outer space...

Besides which, you wouldn't have access to liquid nitrogen, and dry ice is safer. Just remember not to handle it with unprotected skin - always wear gloves and work in a well-ventilated area (like the porch.)

Simple answer is no.

You'd need to have the capacity to put air under extreme pressure, and something to hold that pressure. As the pressure of the oxygen and nitrogen gets to above the critical pressure of nitrogen (~34 Atm), then you'd need to get the temperature of the gases to below the critical temperature of nitrogen (~-140C). This would liquify the nitrogen.

Of course, if you have the capability to chill something to below -140 C, then maybe I'm wrong.

pressure brings about changes in the entropy of molecules. cryogenic nitrogen is such an awosome substance its so cold its unbelivable. it evaporates very quickly,
Jake S i dont believe expanding a gas will make it turn into liquid u might want to edit

No, you can not make it at home.
Liquid Nitrogen is made by separating it from air using boiling point property. You can find information on this technology by searching for air separation technology. Check out websites:
www.uigi.com; www.airliquide.com; www.linde.com. They are companies making plants to produce liquefied gases.

no there really isn't
industrially liq nitrogen (LIN) is made by passing gas nitrogen (GAN) over an expansion turbine. otherwise you need to chill it down way low. like -270 F I believe...

i would not try to home-make it, just get it from the lab
