Enough with the cash, I say. Eventually, Christmas will be a day where we all hand each other sweaty wads of $10 bills.

Gift cards are good because they show you've put some thought into what the person might like. Best Buy, Circuit City for DVDs or music.

If he's just getting his driver's permit, a nice keychain from Fossil or similar would be good.

Food--Target has a S'Mores kit (crackers, marshmallows, chocolate) with microwave instructions, all in a tin for about $10.
