Bali is a mix of divine and terrible, Ive been 6or 7 times, and love to hate it, hate to love it. The Balinese people are lovely, the culture intriguing. Do the adventures you asked about, but understand that most of what you do on Bali will not help Bali. Bali is now controlled by Javanese and foriegn influences, and is becoming more and more corrupt by the day. DO NOT DRIVE/ RIDE yourself. DO NOT BUY DRUGS from someone you just met. I personally would not drink in popular "western" bars. For a genuine Bali experience, find a Balinese (not other Indo) driver that you like with a nice comfortable car (a Kijang, not a jeep or van), offer them around US$20 day plus food and fuel to drive/ guide you. They will accept - the offer is a reasonable one. Tell them you want to see REAL Bali, their village maybe, local warung (cheap restaurants), temples, farms, markets, etc. Also check this site for indepth Bali knowledge.

Yeah person above me is rite..You will get a great time in Bali..
You must go to Dreamland..Beautiful beach..
If you wanna do parasailing, try go to Tanjung Benoa near Nusa Dua...there are many water sports available there..and after that I suggest you to go to Jimbaran for dinner. Both place are not so far. Jimbaran specialty is seafood and you can eat on the beachside..Nice place..
If you want to enjoy culture, you can watch Bali traditional dance called Kecak and Barong in BatuBulan area, after that you can go to Sukowati market for shopping, many cheap goods there just don't hesitate to bargain with the shopper.. You also can continue to Ubud which the center of Bali cultural arts.
All places are in the same route..
O yeah..don't miss Tanah Lot, the sunset there is so beautiful..
Have a nice holiday..I wish I can spend my new year there too

Nahh...don't worry about the bombing thing or teroris things...Things are different now...If you want to go beaches, try KUTA and LEGIAN you just can surfing there...But, NUSADUA is better...You can ride a jetski, para sailing, diving and even go to turtle island.Bungee huh? There's SLINKSOT near the KUTA SQUARE which is better than bungee...Cultural?You can go to PASAR SUKOWATI (Traditional Market)...I suggest you stay at hotel near the KUTA SQUARE (such Paradiso, Hard Rock, Ramayana, etc). Its easier to you to hang out,esp in the countdown time....Happy holiday =)
Onemore thing, you can try new beach side called DREAMLAND....
