I think that Global warming is important and should be something that peolpe should start thinking about.
But I don't know if I should write about it because it is so controversial.

Nah, it think it's trite. Do something different. You might sound like a beauty queen. It's not because it's controversial (I don't think it is), I just think that college admissions people will be tired of reading about global warming. Pick something more specific and unique to you.

if you are passionate about the issue write about it. When you care about something it shows in your work. It'll get you a better grade if you do better work. don't worry about controversy. There's fighting about it because it's IMPORTANT! Go for it girl.

And what good can come from shying away from controversy? Just whatever you do... study both sides of the issue vigorously, then come to your own conclusions before writing your paper.
Or, you can do it on urban sprawl, and I can proofread it for you... I'm somewhat of an expert on that subject!

It's only controversial among the people who don't understand it. Same reason evolution is controversial. The people who really understand it don't have the issue with controversy. Same with the moon landings.....they're not controversial if you really understand science. You can't let the dipshits run your life, kiddo.

I believe it's important because not many people are educated on this issue.
