Are you in high school? You'll probably need MLA ( even though there's also APA). I have this awesome book called the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers, 6th edition. Bought it at Barnes and Noble, but you can probably get it from a library. Some basic principles - last name, page number at top right of page. Double-space the whole thing. Center your title. Alphabetize by author's last name. If no author, go by the title (but ignore words such as "A", "An" or "The"). There are a million formats for everything from books to websites. I'd recommend you get the book or go to owl.purdue.com
