Of course they get paid way too much. Does anybody remember who the first $1 million a year player was? I sure do. The big salaries started back in the 70's with free agency. Agents are a huge problem in sports. They make the players think they are worth way more than they are worth. Just once I'd love to see a player say no to getting an agent and get paid way less than somebody comparable at their position.

Professional baseball players do get paid too much. I'm for a salary cap in baseball. I'm for it not because players get paid too much, though that's a secondary reason to me. I'm for it because certain teams, like the Yankees for instance, can afford the salaries for the big names. A whole roster of talented, over paid athletes bids well for a playoff contender every year. If the Yankees are the only team that can match that players bid, I don't think that's fair for anyone else. In football, there's a salary cap. It mixes up the playoff contenders more fairly every year because of that. Baseball needs to have a salary cap or these contracts are only going to get bigger and bigger to where it's almost sick.

Why do you care if others think that or not?

Ok, they are NOT overpaid.

They aren't just going out having a silly goood old time playing games. They go through harsh conditioning and I guarantee you would fall flat on your face on day 1 of that. Everyone has the fair chance to make the majors and get paid that amount so stop crying. If you want to make that amount, you should of worked your *** off and made the majors yourself.

Another thing you have to realize is that the majors is a business. People come to watch, and buy things from the concession. The people show up for the players, and the players want to get paid a lot. They have to make a living so they should get paid a lot. The money is there to pay them loads as well because all of the money thats in the market.

If you don't like the fact that they're getting paid that much, then stop going to the games. Just don't cry about it.

Yeah of course they do. It is simply because our culture. Think back for generations who the best paid people were. The were originally rulers because they had the most responsibility and only a person of the noble bloodline could be a kind or queen. During the renaissance it was most likely scientists and mathematicians because that is what culture valued-knowledge. Now because everything is taken care of for us what we value most is entertainment and we will pay billions to keep ourselves entertained. Look at wealthiest people in the U.S. They are comprised of CEO's, sports players and actors. Many of the richest CEO's are heads of companies that sell entertainment or subsidiaries of it. We have "advanced" so to speak past wanting knowledge straight to whatever tickles our fancy and because of it there are more useless things in this world than have ever before existed.

My God, it's obscene how much they get paid. As long as people keep buying their season tickets and merchandise the owners will keep offering contracts to the players. It is so way out of hand that I am barely interested in watching hockey. I'll still watch football but I can't remember the last time I watched or attended a basketball or baseball game.

I don't give a damn how much they get paid. I'm a autograph seeker and the number 1 thing I hate is stuck up players that never signs. Who cares if that person is selling or not, that player still gets his money. Prime Example. The NY Yankees, all stuck up and afraid to give a autograph to folks. I know this is off the subject but just want to get that out there. Thanks.

If enough people believe the athletes are overpaid they'll stop attending and watching the games. This will cut down the revenues the teams have to operate and push the player's salaries lower.

The chances of a highschool athlete becoming a pro is 1 in 16,000.

He took a hell of a chance pursuing a baseball career, he isn't overpaid.
