Do they commute to a lake every weekend in the summer? Go water skiiing, swimming, boating, etc? Do some asians own fast power boats and sea doos and cigerette boats and sail boats? I guess I am just curious as to whether or not the cottage and lake trend is more of a north american thing or not. I live in Canada in southern Ontario and we all love to head to the lake in the summer to party at a nice cottage and have a few drinks on the dock etc...

I am not trying to be ignorant, and I don't mean poor people who like live in huts and stuff. I just was wondering if there was a sort of 'cottage culture' among the middle/upper class...like if people have a lot of money do they save up to buy a second property on a lake so that their family can go there for vacations and stuff

There are some resort hotspots in Japan, and most people go to ryokans (hotels) for short stays. It is a very lucrative business, especially hot spring resorts. The very rich can afford a 'cottage' or more likely because of lack of space a 'condo apartment' in these areas. I live near a large lake and hotsprings and there are some subdivisions that are like ghost towns at certain times of the year....this is a close to 'cottage country' as I have seen.

No. Some might, but (no offense to Asians) some places in Asia are very poor. They aren't as luxurious as the US.
