The way I see it, friendship & love are basically the same. My best friends/family are those I care about the most. There's a difference from friendship & romantic love is that the latter implies a sexual attraction as well as love/caring. To my way of thinking, the term "true love" is kind of redundant (though I know some use it to describe a lover who's also a friend).

Of a friend & a lover, the one who by definition loves you is called a friend.

well romantic love also involves feelings of sexual attraction. and feelings of friendship, intimacy, and trust often tend to be stronger and more intense when it's romantic love vs. friendship love. there's also a certain degree of needing the other person (and it should be mutual).
