I'm weary of ads I see on TV that claim they can help if you send them your idea. Any thoughts on the the way to go starting from nothing but a good idea? (I asked this question a little while ago in another catagory but nobody answered in a few mins so I deleted. Should've known to come to polls and surveys in the 1st place :)

Go to the USPTO website. Get the info you need for your 'type' of product. Then pick a software package that assists you in writing the application. I've done it twice - no big gig...

It depends on what country you're in. If you're in Canada, go to the Industry Canada website at strategis.gc.ca and you will find out how to patent your idea yourself. I have no idea how you would do it in another country. You could do a google search under patents or call your local government information line or centre. Good luck.

I am not sure where you should go, but I would recommend researching in a library or the Internet how to patent ideas.

Try this site : http://www.uspto.gov/#

And hey, give people a bit longer the chance to answer to your question....people from other countries than the USA may be able to help you out, but you have to remember there IS a time-difference between countires. (hell, even within America itself there is)
