PS3. Not only are there good games coming out for it, you can also still play PS2 games on it and DVD's.

I myself am a fan of Nintendo products, and I like the PS2 graphics, but I have to say that the XBox 360 must be the best choice. Online or not, this platform has best graphics out of the three, more for the money, And it doesn't have a faulty wireless controller that suddenly makes you player 2 when tilted the wrong way, delayed actions causing you to die, or just busts the whole system down altogether. A Wii is newer, but is extremely expensive, wireless controller and no other, has graphics worse than the Gamecube and GBA conbined, and although you can download every Nintendo platform game, which cost $50 each game, they aren't as good as one would expect, and it doesn't have those awesome features like the PS3's ability to surf the internet and play music. So, XBox-360, definately.

PS3. It can do a lot more and has a lot more power. The cell processor has been in the making for some time now and is a masterpiece

At the moment, I think the 360 is best. Good games already and getting better all the time. Check out Gears of War and enjoy it while it lasts. You really must use an HDTV though or you are wasting your cash.

PS3 impossible to get if you are not mega rich and the launch games are not really all that impressive. I have no doubt though that this time next year will be a different story.

For me, Nintendo have always been a kind of strange family type thing. I haven't owned one since the Super Nes, but Street Fighter 2 Turbo on that system still rates as an all time great.

@sanescience
Wii's do have online cababilites, they actually have WIRELESS internet, which pwns ps3 or xbox360
not to mention they cost 200-300 dollars less then the other systems, and as the 360 and ps3 both are almost exactly the same as thier predecessor, except for the ps3's last-minute attempt to make up for the wii coming out with the motion sensor controller*coughsixaxiscough*, and the upgraded graphics(ooohhh, graphics) the wii is the only system that deserves to be called a "next-gen" console, although alot of people will take the ps3 because of its high-end blu-ray crap and processor..them and thier graphics, i know that i prefer most 8-bit games to the new shiny 3d graphics things that everybody seems to be mesmerized by...overall, the Wii is alot better

Wii is a souped up game cube with a remote control gimmick. It is OK if you are not excited by better graphics. Be careful not to smash your nice TV or friends while playing it. No online service. Games seem more family oriented.

PS3 might have the fastest processor, but Sony lost it's mind when they designed the architecture around it's super fast Cell chip. PS2 was difficult to develop on. PS3 makes university software professors scratch their heads. Developers are are loosing patience with Sony's difficult platforms driving up their production costs. The online service is weak and lacks important features like background downloads. Blu-ray technology drives the cost up but doesn't score high on what buyers want a game console for. Does not come with an HDMI cable.

Xbox 360 seems to have hit a steady stride with it's polished online service and numerous titles. Hardware wise it's processors are less advanced but easier to develop for. It's ATI GPU unified shader model generally outperforms the PS3 NVIDIA GPU. The older models used to scratch the media if the unit was moved, but newer models prevent that from happening now. Blue laser media reader must be purchased separately but main unit costs much less if you don't want it. It does however come with an HDMI cable.

Oh, and you can find one at the store to buy.

I own none of these systems, I only develop for them.

Edit: I was too general about Wii online service. No online service yet. I quote: "According to Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime has confirmed that Wii gamers will be able to play games online from the second quarter of 2007."

as a staunch playstation supporter/gamer i have become increasingly frustrated by the constant delays with the PS3 and after playing on my mates XBOX360 i was very impressed, so i shall be defecting to microsoft's XBOX360 and hopefully kicking all my mates arses online very soon!

my missus want's a wii (excuse the pun!) i'll get her one after crimbo as i cannot locate one before. i think they appeal more to the opposite sex to be honest.
