On and off usually before my menstral cycle breast are getting increasingly tender. (normal I am sure) now my right breast has shooting sharp pains running through it. I took a bath tonight to see if it would feel better and noticed fluid leaking. I am 38. I havent nursed in almost 6 yrs. What are these symptoms of or am I worried over nothing?

I copied and pasted this for you from a website on women's health. It didn't sound right to me that you have colostrum leaking unless you are pregnant?

I'm assuming you would've mentioned that, if that were a possibility?

Anyway, it's time for a mammogram anyway, so get you to the doctor and don't dilly dally about it, okay? Here's the info and you can do a search by simply listing your symptom in yahoo.

If you start seeing any discharge that occurs without this exam, and have the following, please consult your doctor right away:

Leaking without squeezing

Leaking that occurs often (for those who are not currently breast feeding)

Leaking from one nipple more than the other, or just that one alone.

If the discharge contains any tint of pink or red indicating blood.

If it is clear or solid white in colour

If it appears like egg whites

There may be another cause for those women who see leaking from both nipples. These women have what is known as "galactorrhea". They have a harmless, tiny tumor in the brain that triggers a response for more milk producing hormones called prolactin. This tumor (or even tumors) do not require surgery to remove.

Are you sure you are not pregnant again? Well, if not, it just may be some milk that is left in the breast, and it is relieving it self. Many months after I stopped nursing my kids, some milk would just be coming out of me for no apparent reason. It also caused pain. If it gets worse, and more painful, just get a check up that is the best thing to do.

Go see your doctor. That is a sign of breast cancer...not to scare you but that is exactly how mine started too and it only hurt around my period time too, most of the time. It would be worth checking it out. Are the shooting sharp pains in the same place every time? Demand a mammogram b/c of your age they will want to blow it over saying it is just fibrocystic breasts.

Go see a doctor immediately. Could be cancer! Never let something like that go!
