that JESUS stays with them day and night, and JESUS won't let them be scared and that JESUS is watching them sleep soundly in their rooms, every night.

When a child is genuinely afraid of the dark, it takes time to reassure them. Tell them that Mummy wouldn't let anything hurt them, there's nothing to be afraid of, all the usual. Get a night light, this is not spoiling your child, if it helps just do it, leave their bedroom door open. My daughter is 12 and still sleeps with a lamp on. My sons eventually grew out of it, but I know what it's like. You'll just have to persevere, and do it with love, getting angry will have no positive effect what so ever. Good Luck with your boys.

Tell them the truth. There is no reason to be afraid of the dark; there are no monsters. It probably won't help them but it's best to stick with the truth. Ask them what they're afraid of in the dark and talk with them about it. If all else fails, ask their doctor how to deal with it.

It may have more to do with what they are watching on t.v. rather than it just being dark. Pay close attention to what they are watching and eliminate anything that may be causing their fear. Buy them cute night lights, let them pick out one each.
Hug them lots, and reassure them you are close by and that GOD is watching over them too.
Talk to them about what it is that makes them afraid and take cues from them as to anything else that would be helpful.

Tell them that if they put their stuffed animals the foot of the bed, they'll scare the monsters away in the middle of the night. :-)
