under the garden & lanscape category,the answer would be a bulb is the swollen underground stem of a plant,with modified leaves ,it is basically a storage organ supplying nutrition to the new plant that developes from it in the next growing season .examples would be tulip,daffodils,crocuses etc,vegetable example would be onions.
