Which of these DNA strands would the DNA strand TACGGCAA be paired with in a double-stranded DNA molecule?

In DNA the rules goes

A is always paired with T
C is always paired with G

A is only paired with U if the DNA is being made a copy of (transcription). U is only found in RNA.

A is Adenine
C is Cytosine
G is Guanine
T is Thymine

In base pairing, A bonds with T, and C bonds with G.

Looking at your problem, T is first. Since it bonds with A, answers A, C, and E are incoreect. That leaves B and D.

Second, since A would bond with T, that would eliminate answer B, only leaving answer D as the correct choice.

If you were seeking RNA bonding, then instead of T, you would have U which stands for Uracil, bonding with A. C and G would still bond as in DNA.

D, because Adenine base pairs with Thymine and Cytosine pairs with Guanine in DNA. But in RNA Thymine doesn't exist and Uracil takes it's place, that is Adenine pairs with Uracil.

It depends on the direction of the sequences. If the sequence in the question is from 5' to 3', then it'd be D if D goes from 5' to 3' as well. It'd be A if it goes from 3' to 5'.
