penguins! and lots of 'em

2006-12-14 13:06:56 · answer #1 · answered by Cate 4 · 1 0

Yes, penguins live on Antarctica. I did a report on Antarctica in the 6th grade. Many people actually think that penguins live in the North Pole...that's a misunderstanding. Also, aside from penguins, a certain type of fly that can withstand the extreme cold lives around the center, and a hard plant that takes about 100 years to grow a few inches lives there too.
Hope I helped!

There are no permanent human residents and Antarctica has never had an indigenous population. Only cold-adapted plants and animals survive there, including penguins, fur seals, mosses, lichens, and many types of algae. The name "Antarctica" comes from the Greek ανταρκτικός (antarktikos), meaning "opposite the Arctic."[2]

Yes. There are over 3,000 scientists and support personnel. It is an international territory.

Presently, they are building a new facility at the South Pole. In fact, they are hiring all kinds of people to work there, even apprentices. Raytheon is hiring if you would like an adventure you can talk about for the rest of your life!

Yes, there are a number of animals that live in Antarctica. And no, Polar Bears are not one of them. They only live in the Arctic, the opposite side of the world. There are birds, seals and even insects that live there.
