and yes I know this works both ways, so I will ask this question in reverse as well. What do women do the same thing to men?

One word answer--sex.
Men are pre-programed to try and get laid, some are worse than others. Usually don't mean to hurt people but that is secondary to getting you in the sack.
Women do it for ego, at least that is what my wife says.

The exact same thing can be said about women leading men on.

The correct answer for everyone who finds themselves in this situation is simple:

GO LOOK SOME WHERE ELSE!

If a person keeps on picking up Mr./Ms. Wrong who hurts them it is because they will not learn. They may have a martyr complex. They may like the bronzed god/goddess but they ain't the right person.

They need to stop and take stock of their situation and ask themselves if they are addicted to pain or are merely unable to learn. The real clue comesfrom when they actually do find someone nice and they dump them saying, "Oh we weren't really that compatable" which should read, "If I can't play the victim I won't do it."

I think relationship is a two-way thing. Try not to hurt either party or else one may land-up being hurt most. If the relationship does not work, move on.
