Computer automatically takes phone line so I can not get on line.?

As soon as the computer is turned on it connects to the phone line. I do have dial up, but the computer connects so I can not get online. I have changed modems, phone line, and closed all programs in an attempt to manually dial a connection. When I pick up the phone it is silent. I have deleted my modems in the computer and re-installed them. I have tried 2 seperate modems with no luck. I am currently using a different computer to get on line

If you are using xp, open task manager(control, alt, delete) and check running processes. Try to see if something shows up there that shouldn't be. End that process and see if you can gain control of you modem.

Check event log, again if using xp.

If you have a good fire wall with inbound and out bound protection set it block all. The xp fire wall will not work for this as it only has inbound protection. Boot to safe mode. Try to configure your dial up connection to auto dial, put in yor username and password and check the to save the info. Reboot. Since a connection will be made, your firewall should catch whatever is trying to go online.

Have you tried to remove the dail up connection and then redo it.

Basically, the only reason why the computer automatically connects sometimes has to do with the programs on your computer. Like if you have an Anit-virus program that needs to be on the internet to run, a Firewall, or any other internet based programs.

Since you uninstalled and re-installed 2 different modems then my guess is that there is a program on your computer that is making the computer connect itself.
