I wouldn't get upset about her celebrating Christmas, but it sounds as though she's missed the point of it and is focusing on the 'commercial aspect of it' and not the reason behind it if she's said that all that Jesus stuff is stupid.
As a Christian I would only be upset about the Jesus stuff is stupid comment and politely point out that if she thought is was so stupid - how would she feel if you said all that Hindu stuff was stupid?? It's insensitive. Hinduism is a wonderful religion along with many other religions. Variety is the spice of life.
God (regardless of what you call him) painted us all with the same brush - now it's up to us to get along.
Merry Christmas to you

I am a Christian and I don't celebrate Christmas. Christmas isn't a Christian celebration so it shouldn't offend anyone that a Hindu or an atheist gets involved in it. Some of the traditions that are in practice today are thousands of years old and were in place at this time of year long before Christ was born. Look up Christmas in your encyclopedia.

I am not a Christian, but I am a Jewish person who adores Christmas. I love the parties, the lights, the trees, the music, the cheerful atmosphere. Should I be denied the joy of the season just because I didn't happen to be born Christian? I would not deny a Christian an invitation to a Hannukah party. So why should this girl be denied the joy of Christmas just because she isn't Christian? She could probably be a bit more tactful in her opinions, but maybe the spirit of Christmas will give her a more open mind.

If I were a Christian, I could see where someone could get a little upset. But anyone can celebrate any holiday they want, and since the girl is even celebrating some form of Christmas should be at least one good point.

Yes it is ok for EVERYONE to Celebrate Christmas, maybe she has had a change of heart,it happens. Also, being a Christian means more than if someone else is celebrating the Holiday or not.

Oh, certainly. They are also trying to enjoy the festivities of the time of goodwill and peace on earth. Why should they not be allowed to have a Christmas tree, give presents, send cards, have dinner together and sing carols. I am not a christian, yet I have been celebrating with my friends from when I was 6 years if age!

The thing about Christmas now (as you can see on TV, in stores, etc.) is that it completely isn't about Jesus at all anymore. This is advantageous to businesses, which don't want to only include Christians in the busiest selling spree of the year, but it also has to do with American culture.
Your Hindu friend wants to fit in with her American peers and there's nothing wrong with assimilating, and she isn't the only one who thinks the 'Jesus stuff' is stupid. Try not to get offended because plenty of moderately religious Jews, Muslims, Atheists and (especially) Agnostics celebrate Christmas, and try to accept her for trying to fit in with American culture. She isn't bashing church or religion; she's just participating in American culture in much the same way that many lenient, mildly religious people do.

Nope, and for a couple of reasons.
One, christmas derives from a pagan holiday that predates Christ's birth - so it applies to more than one religion right off.
Two, its so commercialized today, that there are really two forms of christmas anyway - the religious christmas, relating to the birth of christ, and the be nice to others (which Jesus would approve of) that applied to everyone.
Particularly in the later sense, its important to recognize that anyone and everyone should be encouraged to be kind and generous to one another, although not just at this time of year.
Everyone should be welcomed if they wish to participate in Christmas, regardless of their denomination...
And there's also the ultimate oddity - there are some Christian sects which do not practice Christmas...

Christmas is not a solely Christian holiday. It came out of pagan festivals. Anyone who wants to can celebrate it. I'm an Episcopalian and a Hindu wanting to celebrate Christmas is fine with me.

There is nothing wrong. The state of mind was not accepting anthing about Jesus. Today it is accepting the celebration.
u too should be broad minded, God had to take various forms to make stupid people like us understand the fact of life and divine life.
Jusus could have killed the person who were about to cruxify him by his powers, he did not do so because he wanted to make people understand, so he got himself crucified, and again came back on the 3rd day, from the grave, which enlightened the masses.
