Batman. He's got the resources and know-how to kill Superman and if you read Dark Knight Returns, he almost does just to show he can. Also, on Justice League Unlimited, there's an episode called Tabula Rosa where it's revealed that Batman carries a piece of kryptonite in his belt as "insurance." Oh, and to respond to a previous answer, yeah, Superman's got the powers needed to kill Batman, but if you want to be realistic, fine, considering the personalities of the two heroes and after evaluating the situation from a social and psychological standpoint, Superman understands that Batman is a vigilante but also knows that Batman is a good guy also, so chances are, Superman won't kill him unless Batman does something like start a nuclear war, Batman however, as shown in various graphic novels, will kill his enemies and, contrary to popular belief, won't hesitate to use a gun. Superman's got powers but Batman's got balls. Also, if the fight was in Gotham, or any crowded area for that matter, Batman would win because Superman wouldn't be able to use his powers to their fullest potential since he might hurt bystanders by accident.

I'd have to give it to Superman. The guy's just a force of nature. Sure his kryptonite weakness is a big one, and I would even expect Batman to carry some around with him at all times, but Superman's just too much for Batman to handle. Even if he does pull out some kryptonite, what happens when Superman plays it smart and stays outside of range? Batman can give chase, but Superman can crumble an entire city block around Batman if he wanted to. As much as I like Batman, the only way he could win is if he had some special tool that he doesn't usually have, such as a robot or kryptonite bomb - something along those lines.

J3, this is really a great question and one that has been asked a multitude of times.

I am going to say this. Batman should never defeat a Superman. Never.

The argument could be that Bruce is more combat ready than Clark or that Bruce has the more intellectual capacity. As I am writing this that is really crap.

Many fans forget and because of the Superman Returns movie should realize that Clark is from a more advanced planet. He is not of this world. When Jor-El left all that Kryptonian education at his fingertips it was most likely more advanced than anything that Bruce could truly muster. The comics builds Clark to be this dumb old country boy when in reality he is light years ahead of any technology that Bruce has come with in his musty old cave.

The comics always use the Krytonite that Bruce keeps on him to destroy Supes, but I have said this time and time again. Clark could distengrate Bruce 5 miles away with heat vision, could hover over Wayne Manor and freeze he and Alfred to death with his cold breath. Could Super -speed around Bruce and tap him with one hit and break his neck.

This is the man of steel for God's sake. He get closer to the sun than most characters in comics, save the Silver Surfer.

Regardless of what some of my colleagues here at Yahoo! Answers say about the Bat defeating Supes, they need to give it a really realistic and serious look.

I love the Bat, but he does not stand a chance.

Well batman is probably smarter than superman and that might work in Batman's favor. Superman has one weakness: kryptonite. If batman can get his hands on it, then he'd win. Otherwise, Superman has the advantage.

Yes, Batman has defeated Superman, but Superman also returned and beat the living crap out of him as well...so the one on one match is even.

They both are extraordinary in their own ways. Obviously, superman has intense strength and speed along with his virtual invulnerability minus kryptonite. And Batman has enhance strength, agility, speed, cunning and tactical knowledge.

In a brawl, one on one, no gadgets, no weapons of any sorts, Batman loses very easily. Superman beats most anyone in the category of a fist fight, even Marvel's deadliest man, Wolverine, would have his handful with Superman, but that fight would be shortly lived with the mutant being tossed into the sun, which where if Superman wanted to end batman's life, he'd end up there as well.

But If batman had time to set up a plan, organize a scheme, Superman loses. It's not like Batman carries around Kryptonie in his pocket just in case he gets attacked by Earth's greatest protector. Batman has the most cunning mind of all DC, his dectective skills are rivalled by no one, his athletic agility rivals that of Daredevil who in turn goes shot for shot with Spider-Man. Batman is human though, and his body, and chiseled and perfected as it is, can only withstand so much of a pounding. In order for this fight to be won by Batman, he has to know it's coming, otherwise, Superman over powers him in every aspect of a physical fight. Batman has the edge, well a significant advantage, in the intellect department, while Superman dominates the physical realm of the fight. It's the classic case of brains v. Brawn. Brawn wins in hand to hand, brute strength, but if well times, well thought out Batman can win the fight and has proven to in the past, but Superman has as well. The question here is, can one of them finish the other off for good?..That would be the only way to come up with a decisive answer or conclusion. Both are masters of their profession, it is just who gets the upperhand and can maintain it. It's a relatively even match, Batman just has to have the time to produce a plan, while Superman has to stay on the offensive to win. Either one, given the right circumstances can pull out the victory, both are proven on the battlefield, against Aliens, psychotics, masterminds, and even rich billionaires. They are the elite of elite, it all comes down to who wants it more...

This is really hard, but I'd have to say Batman because he has more allies that could help him. Superman has himself and his powers, somehow I see batman pulling through. Now superman and spiderman, that's a different story.

superman because he seems to be invincible and undestructable. He has body of bulletproof and super incredible strength. Batman is not bad too, hes smart and intelligent, i think he got super strength too because he was trained by some legend sensei (like ninja) LOL but I doubt he would have super strength like superman because superman is an alien. Plz vote me for the best answer hehe
