The other day I witnessed what looked like a mother and father taking turns beating up an 18 or 20 year old girl whom I believe was the daughter..the mom was pulling her hair and the dad was slapping her face and back...I pulled over and wanted to say something..but the father threatned me to, it all stopped but I wanted to call the cops..a few others broke it up and I left..should I have called the cops on these abusive parents?

I probably would have called the cops. Those people need to be behind bars.
In this case, no you shouldn't have minded your own business. I know it can be hard sometimes as people are crazy and they may have had a gun. But calling the police would have been a good idea.

Minding your own business is sometimes a good thing to do but when a person is getting beat in public, that's when it is not okay. I heard this story about a kid in Los Angeles who got shot and there were at least 30 witnesses. How many people dialed 911? Nobody because they either thought it wasn't their business or they thought out of all the witnesses, someone else would have called. So it would have been a good idea to call the police on those people. It is never too late to do so if you can describe the people.

Yes. I would have. I believe we have a duty to report crimes when we witness them. I also feel we, as a whole, we have turned our faces away from so many things out of fear and retribution. But we need to take a stand again. We are told over and over to be aware of our surroundings when it comes to terrorism to protect our country and our citizens and we are very willing to do that. Also we are very willing to accuse those because of the anger we may feel. I say, let's get angry at everyday crime too!
I am not putting you down, please don't feel that way. You did stop to help and you probably prevented a more severe beating because of that. I also understand why you were hesitant, when it comes to a parent and their child, that becomes a very sticky situation and we feel it is not our place. But there are too many children who have been brutally killed by the hands of their own parents and often after the child is killed we hear, "I kind of suspected she was being abused." or "I use to hear screaming from down the hall and sometimes I saw the child with bruises."
So I feel you did a great justice by stopping and saying something and I feel that YOUR safety is very important too. So do not feel bad if you felt you could do more and didn't. You did what you could do and in the process kept yourself out of harms way.

wow. Are you sure they were the parents? Or were they the aunt and uncle? In any case, that's serious. I bet other people already called the police. If you still have a way to find out more info about them, I'd tell it to the police. But yeah, people should in the other hand, mind their own business, but you were just being a good citizen and a concerned bystander.

Maybe you should have called the cops if thepeople didn't leave, but I'm thankful at least that you stopped to help.
It may not have helped to call the cops; the victim may not have cooperated. And there were other people present. If the victim cared to call the cops, she could, without your help.
You did well. Thank you.

You did the right thing. I think many people believe in minding their own business, and someone ends up hurt, what you saw was obvious. They were taking turns hitting her, they weren't just yelling at her, they were hitting her. So God knows what they would have done.

Maybe they were pimps, or she was a junkie and her parents were dragging her out of a crack house after she stole their rent money or something, there are many different outlooks on this, its hard to say, so you cant assume anything anymore
