If he wins, we'll love him. If he doesn't, WEEI will trash him in English and he won't know we hate him anyway.

The Sox might have spent a lot on him, but no more than a high priced free agent pitcher would get in this years market. Just look at what career 5th starter Gil Meche got for a salary this year.

PLUS, let's not forget the money this guy will bring in from Japan. The Red Sox finally put their foot in the door of the asian market. They were estimating that Daisuke's signing will bring 75 million dollars to the city of Boston just in tourism alone. I know that the Red Sox don't get that, but it's great for the city. But also factor in all the merchandise that the Sox will make from this guy. (ticket sales, jersey sales, tv rights in Japan, etc.)

This was a great move by the Red Sox.

No untested pitcher is worth $52 million (you forget the over $50 million in posting fees as well). Matsuzaka may become a good pitcher over time, but there is no reason to expect him to come into basically a hitter's division (the AL East) and dominate. Matsuzaka's impact will probably be minimal this season as I would expect him to win 10-12 games at most.

The only way this cat is worth the money is that this whole deal is getting huge publicity. I don't know if he even knows how to speak English so his chemistry with the team will be hard to determine.

Don't forget BoSox fans that part of the bidding on Matsuzaka was a stratigic block against the Yankees from aquiring him. Hmmm? So don't be so quick to judge. Wakarimasu ka?

Boston spent way to much time and money on a guy thats GOING TO BE 3RD IN THE ROTATION!!! I have no idea what they were doing. He'll be good but not worth what they did.

He is going to be an above average pitcher, however, with the money they spent, they were better off getting Zito.
