I have gone door to door sales for over 20 years. I have knocked on just about everything there is on a house.I have knocked on the air if I come to a door and someone is right there where I can see them.I allways knock.Its the proper thing to do. the doorbells sometimes dont work.so I never push the door bell button. If there is no door then how can you hear opportunity knocking? I guess they would have to use the door frame or go "knock knock" but that is so annoying!

No and if the door is open i don't knock unless it is someone i don't know well. My friends houses i just walk in lol.

I run all the way to a landfield to find a door then put it up and knock, the I bust in anyway.........

Yeah but then when im not paying attention i accidently wind up knocking on the persons forehead

Well, since it's an obvious opening to a room from another space, there will be some sort of framing, knock on the wall, or poles or beams or something if you need to interrupt or announce your presence.....

If it's the front door, I use the window! If it's a bedroom door i use the wall!
