my partner recently bought a new tank for her fish. it came with a filter that literally blows fish around the tank.

all bar 1 plattie and 3 goldfish died.

the plattie never swims near the filter. the goldies have been moved to a holding tank for now.

we suspect the filter. is this a possibility?

hello, yes very possibly that its causing death. goldfish as well as other fish need to be able to rest sometime. also the filter could cause them to be sucked onto or into the filter.the best thing to do is find a filter that is for the gallon tank you have. this way your fish can rest. this will also reduce stress and allow your little guys to swim more freely. hope this info helped you..jewels

I would think so...it would be exhausting to try to constantly fight the flow of water and then possibly get flung against the side of the tank. It would require a lot of energy and would cause high stress for the fish which makes them susceptible to fish diseases. I would get a filter that is designed for use in the size tank that you have...good luck!

The filter itself will not kill the fish, but it will cause stress to the fish, and if this stress prolongs, it will eventually kill the fish. My suggestion would be to size down to a smaller filter, or if you can, lower the power of the filter. Good luck.

Yes, it can. Fish can die from too much oxygen. They can get sucked into the filter and injured as well. It sure doesn't sound like the new tank is very comfortable for your fish. Can you turn down the pump or get a smaller one?

most probably is the filter. Imagine yourself being in a hurricane 24/7. You would get stressed and tired out and so does your fish.

What you need to do is find out how many gallons your tank is, and buy a filter according to that.

The Penguin/Emperor lines are genuine quiet. some would say in the different case, yet that really occurs if the clear out isn't primed perfect. Cannisters are quiet too. in words of lights, some thing is fantastic. in case you want a planted tank, then you actually want some more thing desirable, like a potential compact set. maximum goldfish-secure vegetation do not fairly want that even with the truth that. For a 29 gal, you want a 24" piece. keep it on 6 hours an afternoon to deter algae. I commonly get a tumbler cover from large Al's on line.

it sure can, especially if they are the "fancy"variety of goldfish with long fins and short rounded bodies, the current produced by the filtration literally wears the fish out and they die
