If you're using those tank dividers you can buy in the fish store with the small holes drilled in them, it will work but only to a certain degree. Any chunky material larger than the holes in the divider, of course, will not be able to pass through the divider to the section the filter is in so those chunks won't be removed--but the water will circulate (gentler in the sections with out the filter). If you are doing your weekly tank cleanings the whole tank will be fine although you'll probably have to spend more time cleaning up the sections without the filter because they will have more crud. Also the sections without the filter may begin to look messier between tank cleanings (and mine always got more algaed too).

depending on the kind of divider and the kind of filter. For most filters the dividers would have to have holes of some sort in them to allow water flow. However, no matter what kind of divider you use it will cut down in the efficancy of the filter so you may want to add another anyway.

Normally dividers are not just pieces of plastic or glass that you put in the tank, instead they are just a slab of plastic or material will holes in the middle of it, this will allow water flow, so one filter will be sufficient for that size a tank with 3 dividers.

I would think that it would mostly depend on the type of divider. If it's solid plastic, then the filter will not be effective, but it's a mesh that's large enough to allow things to go through, then they should eventually make it to the filter. You would, however, want to make sure that the mesh isn't getting clogged by larger particles to ensure proper filtration.

It would really depend on the kind of the divider. some divider have holes, these are good dividers. the bigger the hole the better. Some are plane flat with no holes. Hope this helps

solid dividers will not allow things to go through them. drill holes in them if they're not glass large enough for everything but the fish to go through. or you could leave a bit of space on the bottom, again large enough for foo bits to get through but not your bettas (I assume this is still aobut your bettas). if it's mesh it should filter it properly, just watch the dividers for clogs and wash them when they get clogged.
