Why does the general public seem to have an animosity toward the well-educated?

Because the world is becoming more feeling oriented, not fact and logic oriented. Those who hold a point of view because of it's logical foundation are often rejected because facts are often 'uncomfortable'. Another reason is that not very much is expected of students. School administrators hold back the gifted, so as not to offend the slower students. achievement is punished, failure is rewarded. And now it's 'cool' to be ignorant.

I'm right here. *smiles* I guess that the GENERAL public has an inferiority complex whether they want to admit it or not because they have a harder time comprehending and digesting intelligent conversations... otherwise, when we say "well-educated," they think "nerds" and/or "those rich losers who think they're better than everyone else." I'm not a nerd nor am I affluent... I just LEARN when I go to school. Forgive me for having a broader vocabulary than you. (SARCASM!) Not that I'm bragging... but considering how speech has deteriorated so much in these past years, it's hard to not seem as if I'm bragging to an outsider when I am only trying to have a decent conversation.

do you mean -- where have they gone on here?

there's no point to answering people with correct replies because they just pick the reply they understand.

someone asked how to beat a lie detector... and as a grad student at a major university in a psych department with a professor who actually studies lie detection with fMRI - I thought I was fairly well positioned to answer...and I had the correct answer (of the 12 that were wrong)

i tried to answer it in simple terms, but the person picked a completely incorrect answer as the "best answer" (something about taking a valium...which wouldn't do anything)

repeat this process 100x and the smart people will go away. the token economy effect that keeps people here wears off eventually. oh, and there was a post where I explained token economy and intermittent reinforcement (to describe why this site is so addictive) and got 2 thumbs down and of course it was not picked as the best answer...and in the asker's comments to the best answer "I dont know but it sure is!" , she goes "yeah - I agree- and i wonder WHY it's so addictive" -- yeah honey I answered you already.

smart people eventually realize they have better things to do... if they're smart...

Most well-educated people tend not to care what the 'general public' thinks.

Try connecting with well-educated folks at alumni events, or by attending speakers at Universities, etc.

Because the general public works for the well educated, i guess most people hate their bosses. j/k
The "not so smart" people try to prove that they are indeed intelligent, or even more than the ones around them. When they meet someone who doesn't need to prove this, they reach the end of the road and show their intelligence to them.

Well in many social circles being well educated is seen as uncool and many people carry this stigma as the grow older and often pass it along to their children creating a Cycle (not scientifically Proven just based on my experience)

That is the smartest question I have ever seen posted on this board.

The answer is the uneducated masses tend to attack when they feel threatened. I believe they feel inadequate and confuse this with being threatened.

Either way we are surrounded by morons, and common sense is extremely uncommon.
