Wow-- I would steer clear of all the harsh petrochemicals (like Pine Sol and Clorox, etc.) because you really don't want that stuff in your future drinking water (which is where it will end up). Borox, baking soda, vinegar-- all good natural products. Dry your towel on a rack or line outside because the sunlight will kill microbes and the fresh air will blow away the smells. If you want a really lovely smelling towel that has been thoroughly sanitized, after your towel has gone through the washer and been spun dry spray it with a solution of 1 cup filtered water and 10-15 drops of your favourite anitmicrobial essential oil before putting it in the dryer. This will give your towel, your bathroom and your whole house a lovely, health-enhancing fragrance. During this season I would suggest: Evergreen Essence, Cinnamon Bark, Clove, Joy or Peace&Calming. Check out these pure unadulterated essential oils here>>>http://tinyurl.com/ykxyuk

Soak the towel in a weak solution of bleach separately. Make sure you put the towel in the solution and not the other way around.
I do not know what part of the world you live in. If you are blessed with plenty of sunshine - then use it. Sunrays do wonders to clothes. They come out bright colored, gets rid of smell and the clothes get that "sun smell" which I love. No detergents or bleach is necessary if you have plenty of sunshine.

Make sure u wash your towels in warm or hot water , always use a clorox safe bleach, try using fabric softer too. You also need to make sure all your towels dry completly, or they will get that damp, musty smell. Sometimes you can use a bit of lemon scented Mr. Clean, or even a half cup or pure lemon juice, or cup of baking soda, just do an extra rinse cycle. If any of that doenst work, throw them out and start new!!!!!!!

To get rid of the sour smell, make sure the towel is thoroughly dry before you store it or use it. When you are drying the towel, give it plenty of space on the line, and if possible dry it in the sun.

Soak them in detergent for about an hour, drain, then wash. Use scented dryer sheets. And if they are staying damp after you use them that could be a problem, hang them separately or get a heated towel rack.

Wash them in HOT water. Add detergent and a little bleach to the water BEFORE you put in your towels. You don't want to get bleach spots on the colored ones. That should take care of your problem.

After they have gone through the washing machine, immediatly move them to the dryer for drying. Don't let them just sit there in the washing machine soaking wet....especially if it's hot in your house....also, don't use fabric softener on your towels, it makes them rough and less absorbant.

Oxy Clean stain remover...Add a bit to your wash load, if it doesn't help, soak in full scoop of Oxy Clean and wash as normal.
