Tom Jones did, the songs called "darling"
lyrics
Darling,
I'm feeling pretty lonesome,
I'd call you on the phone some
But I don't have a dime.
Darling,
You're so far behind me,
Tomorrow's gonna find me
Further down the line.
Taking me some paper
Pencil in my hand,
I'm gonna write:
Darling,
All I feel are cold nights,
Thinking 'bout the old nights
Spent along with you.
Darling,
Tears are in my eyes now,
Knowing I should try now
To make it back to you.
(Instrumental)
Darling,
Love you more than ever;
Wish we were together,
Darling mine.
Darling,
I'm feeling pretty lonesome,
I'd call you on the phone some
But I don't have a dime.
Darling,
You're so far behind me,
Tomorrow's gonna find me
Further down the line.
Taking me some paper
Pencil in my hand,
I'm gonna write:
Darling,
I'm feeling pretty lonesome,
I'd call you on the phone some
But I don't have a dime.
Darling,
You're so far behind me,
Tomorrow's gonna find me
Further down the line.
Taking me some paper
Pencil in my hand,
I'll write darling,
Love you more than ever,
Wish we were together,
Darling mine.
Darling,
I'm feeling pretty lonesome,
I'd call you on the phone some
But I don't have a dime.
Darling,
You're so far behind me,
Tomorrow's gonna find me
Further down the line.
Taking me some paper
Pencil in my hand,
I'm gonna write...

Darling Feeling Pretty Lonesome

Hasn't come to me yet, but I bought it for a present for someone in 1978. That's a start. Interested to note some people are saying Tom Jones. If that's the case mine was a cover version, cos it certainly wasn't Tom Jones on the version I bought.
I see people are saying 1980 onwards for Tom Jones. I know I bought the non-Tom Jones single at Christmas 1978. Good luck. If it helps your searching , it was definitely popular in Liverpool in 1978, and this version was not Tom Jones. Seeds of doubt rapidly sowing, I think I'll go on to another question. Good luck once more. Oh dear, I'm so obsessional, Mr Sceptic further down says Frankie Miller 1978, and yes I think that was the version I bought.

Best version was the original by Frankie Miller available on an album called Falling in Love (1978). Music and lyrics by Oscar Stewart / Van Blandamer

The song is called "Darlin' " and was a country hit for Tom Jones in 1981. It actually never made the pop Top 100.

Here are the complete lyrics:

I would love to but unfortunately my subconscious won't allow me to climb on top of a bridge or really tall building and blindly jump off in the hopes that a rubber band will stop me from landing fatally in the water or whatever other hard surface that would splatter me like a watermelon all over the place.!!! Maybe next week.....kay?
