Large Bee Swarm in Attic?

Question

I don't know what to do. I'm killing 2 or 3 bees a day in my house but can't find where they're coming from. This has been going on for months now. An exterminator won't go near it. I think they're honey bees but I live in an area that does have killer bees (South Texas) so that's kinda scary.

What do I do? Who do I need to contact?

Contact a bee keeper. They are NOT "killer" bees, they are more likely honey bees.

Killer bees release a pheromone when killed alerting her sisters that they are under attack and then they do their famous swarming.

If you have been getting away with killing 2-3 a day by now you would have been swarmed at least once.

Next time you kill one before you throw out the body contact a bee keeper and describe the bee to him, it may be some other type of bee in which case you should call an exterminator telling him what species of bee the bee keeper said it was likely to be.

It also may be a bumblebee. There are over 270 species of bumblebee. In this case you contact the exterminator.

Bees don't actually swarm to protect their hives. A swarm is when a whole colony moves to find a better site. A swam has the queen at the centre and are usually not harmful as they gorge on honey before they move and this prevents them from bending in order to use their sting. They aren't that rare although in some areas there has been a marked reduction in numbers of bees due to something called Colony Collapse Disorder which is where a whole colony dies .

Look up bee keepers or honey producers in your local area phone book. If they are honey bees then someone would love to have them in a hive where the honey can be harvested. Often they will do this just so they can get the bees. But if they're killers bees you should be calling a Federal animal control department, parks and wildlife, maybe.

Well I've rode my bike through a swarm of bees. I've step on to em and haven't got stung... With a Killer bee? gee I dont know. The thing you should know is... its more afraid of you than you are. However, they do get piss, so you dont wanna catch em at a temper. Bee's cannot survive in the dark... I had a bee in my room once that landed and died. There's even a scientific study. You probably do have a swarm of bees with a hive around your house somewhere. I had one in front of my house... but the wierd thing is it never came in the house.

They refuse to take them out? That's rediculous... They are paid to extreminate the bees... it may take 2 guys to do the job. But it must be taken down if it's around the house. Call them again and get them to haul their azzz over to your house to analhilate the bees.

you need to go get an exterminator who has a set if you know what I mean.Contact an exterminator that specializes in large bee nests.It sounds like that may be what you have.Dont panic there are people out there who deal with this,it just wasnt the guy you talked to.I would do this sooner rather than later as the nest may actually be in your walls not your attic.Either way it is a serious situation that needs to be dealt with now.

Wow! you may have a real problem there!
I wouldn't try anything yourself like spraying them because they could be killer bees and you could set off an attack.
You need some one experienced to deal with that.

get bug bombs turn off all pilot lights to your gas appliances
set off the bug bombs according to directions leave your home for 2 hours take all pets if you have any fish tanks cover them with heavy plastic before you set off the bug bombs
when you come home open all windows and doors remain out side or at a neighbors for another hour after you open the doors
if any eating utinsels were left out in the open wash them before eating be carefull of what you handle wash your hands before you eat dont worry as long as your hands are washed it wont hurt you
it probaly would not hurt to do this in every room to include your attic if you have one hope this helps

your local extension agent should have a list of bee keepers that might want to take the swarm off your hands

Find a beekeeper in your area. He can remove the whole swarm for you. He would probably be happy to do it so he can start another hive.

we've taken care of them ourselves... there's sprays you can buy.. you can empty your house [if necessary] spray your attic [spray the area] and close the attic.. or try another exterminator...
