And this is just one example, but I see it ALL the time in the clubs, at weddings, on music videos -- basically any situation where people are dancing. It seems like black people just look better when they dance!

(I'm sure some people will be offended by this question, but it was not my purpose to offend. And I am neither black nor white.)

I've always been curious and am wondering what you all think. :)

Geez, people are so anal & judgmental here! Yes, I was just having fun w/ the quest'n. For those who yelled "Don't generalize; don't be racist!" but then claimed there are no famous black ballrm/ ballet dancers, I know of PLENTY famous black ballerinas & ballrm dancers. So I'm afraid you're the one being racist by claiming that black people cannot succeed in these types of dance forms.

Also, it's OBVIOUS that great dancers come in all shapes, sizes, & colors. Should I have specified in terms of American club-style dancing, music video dancing, & hip hop? I thought the video clips explained that much so that I didn't have to verbally clarify, but I guess not.

For those who said I was culturally ignorant, I think I've probably had more exposure to cultural diversity than most people here. I HAVE seen other dance styles including Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Cambodian, Korean, all sorts of ballroom, modern, tap, ballet, etc. You name it, I've seen it, & in many cases, done it too.

Its not the race that matters. Some people dance better than others, no matter what. I'm not offended although I'm mixed. I think it depends on background dancing. Example: my 19 year old daughter's husband has a family of dancing but he's the only one in the family that can't dance and he's also mixed.

I have been dancing since I could walk and have had the opportunity to dance with many people in different styles in different settings from various cultures. No offense but your question is idiotic and doesn't deserve an answer. Dance is art and art is very subjective so what may be seen as great dancing technique by one may be perverse and ridiculous to another. You may be just kiddin' and having a little fun with this uber-common stereotype but get real you are just perpetuating another myth that will cause more separation amongst people.

Black people tend to look better dancing because... for the most part, it is natural, and part of their history and culture . Dancing is almost instinctual. It's cultural and traditional dating back to roots in Africa. Music and rhythm is like breathing, a natural component of a black person. They FEEL the music. Once you feel the music, your confidence is increased and it's a personal experience. You feel like you're "getting down" and it doesn't matter what anybody else thinks. And of course that doesn't mean every black person.

i know plenty of black people who can't dance. some people are just natural at certain things no matter what color they are. good question, not offended but good idea to have the disclaimer :)

That is not only a ridiculous statement but a complete falsehood based on your own shallow and narrow perception of what good dancing is. I am not offended by the question and or it's inference, however, the world is a huge place with diversity in culture. I don't consider myself either black or white but view world cultures each with it's own unique abilities and talents with none "Better" than another but just different. Some of the dancing you so highly regard is viewed by some as vulgar, tasteless and primitive in nature.

Great dancers come in all shapes and sizes, but the key is confidence.

Honestly, I think they both look completely INSANE. Color is put to the side...

Don't generalize! But I know that black people are really good at dancing! Perhaps it's in their nature to do so!

EDIT: just to let you know, i didn't get offended by your question! =)
