you could always consider bankruptcy? People think it is really bad or really hard to do, but neither of those things are true. You'll notice that once a bankruptcy is discharged, people instantly have credit offers coming to them out their rears :)
This is beacuse you can only file every 7 years and they (the creditors) know there is no risk of you filing for at least that long.
Also, with three children and only makaing>$9.80/hour, you are likely registered in below the poverty level and would have no problem filing for a Chapter 7 (otherwise known as a fresh start or liquidation bankruptcy).
I worked for a Chapter 7 trustee and a Chapter 7 lawyer. I have seen the benefits and how easy they are to get/work with.
Good luck.

First, may I say that the Judge who told you to get another job should be taken out in public and whipped. Then fired. You're already at work 10.5 hours a day but I guess that moron didn't take that fact into account.
Okay, I'm in Indiana so I'm not sure how things are done in California but here we have township Trustees who can help in these kinds of situations, you can look them up in your phone book. If that doesn't pan out there should be other "safety nets" in your community, maybe social services or something like that? If you are active in a local church that might be another place to try since you'll be able to give it back next month. Good luck and I hope you find what you need!

What did you do to get your wages garnished in the first place? I'm not trying to be mean, I just know that if it is for a medical bill, or something like that, I have had problems like that myself. If it is a medical bill, write a letter to the hospital. They have grants for people that cannot afford the bill. If you write a nice letter, and know who to send it to, most likely they will dismiss the charges! Even if it isn't a medical bill, just speaking to someone will usually help the situation.

wow that judge is cold. maybe you can talk to the landlord and tell him the situation your in that if he can hold off until you get your income tax check. it might work a friend of mines ran into a problem with paying rent also and the manager did it. maybe try the department of social services they might help with the rent. i do know they pay for first and last when your homeless with kids and you said you have kids that arent yours. if i was you id make the call to dept social services. good luck

Wage garnishment is pretty drastic.
Check in your area for free legal aid. They usually have a good network of contacts, and maybe some could help get you through these next couple of months.

Have you ever considered filing bankruptcy. There are legal institutions which will do the filing for a minumum fee. You may also consider talking with your lenders or anoutside agency.

If you are planning on getting a tax return large enough to pay off the debt, it sounds like you need to claim more exemptions and get more money in your paycheck.
