This is not for me! My friend has a 2000 Kia that will misfire at low RPM's. This 4 cylinder engine has 2 coils???? We were advised that the coil fires in 2 cylinders at the same time????? The way that it was explained is that when it fires, only one of the cylinders has fuel in it. They found it to miss in only one cylinder????? If the coil is bad then shouldn't it miss in 2 cylinders. We were also told that it could possibly be the injector but yet it seems to run OK at 50 Mph. Can a coil be only half bad? If anybody can help me, please get back to me at rkhcomputer@yahoo.com

if it is a 4 cylinder and only has 2 coils then there are 2 wires as well. the coil could be sending spark out of the wire and not through the outlet that is on the other plug. or vice versa.

I have a way to get reliability reports for cars free. Look what I pulled up from it on your vehicle: Common problems on this vehicle are failures of the Engine Wire Harness and the Ignition Coils. Failure of the Engine Wire Harness is commonly a faulty wire or splice problem; this can cause a drivability problem or the check engine light to illuminate. Failure of the Ignition Coils can cause a misfire and the check engine light to illuminate.

i own a repair shop, and id look at the plugs first in it,,and if they look ok you might have a bad coil pack on it,there is no real way to test a coil pack,,sometimes a full diagnostic test will show a lack of fire ,,but it wont tell you that the coil pack is bad,,you can test t is by seeing f there is any fire on the plug while its running,,if there isn't it does have a bad coil pack on it,,good luck with it,i hope this help,s.,,have a good x-mas.

I don't see many Sportage's but I did have to replace a bad coil in one last year so I can believe this is the case with your vehicle.

Start with the spark plugs, then wires, THEN the coils. or just bring it to a service station
