Ok ladies, I need you advice. I get really bad menstrual migraines. Nothing has worked to stop them so my doctor suggested that I start using the pill (I use nuvaring now but I'm not a huge fan of it) and use it for three months straight and then have a period (he doesn't like his patients to go more than 90 days without a period). He says I'll still get the migraines but not as many since I'm not getting a monthly period. My question is will my period be really heavy since it'll only be once every 3 months? Please tell me your experiences with skipping your periods. Thanks!

I do the period once every three months thing - and my periods are SO much lighter - I only need a panty liner each day for three days. When you go for that long on the pill, you body doesn't bother to increase the lining in the uterus, so your periods get lighter, not heavier. It rocks!

I have migraines very frequently and I have been having them since I was about 5 yrs old. I know the absolute pain that your daughter is going through. The first time I went to the doctor for my migraines, I was in the 5th grade and I hadn't started my period yet. My doctor said that could be the reason. I continued to have migraines even after I got my period in 7th grade. I delt with the pain until my first year of college and I then decided to see my doctor again. I had an MRI done and I was then referred to a neurologist. My MRI came back ok and the Dr. said that migraines can be hereditary and that I inherited that awful trait from my both my mom and dad who both suffer with migraines. The Dr. perscribed a preventive medicine and a pain medicine for when the pain kicks in. The combination actually works and I now have way fewer migraines.
