You've heard the First Amendment argument, over and over, so here are some other, very good reasons.

The point of displaying the 10 commandments is to say that our laws are based on them. This is not the case; our laws derive from a proud tribal Anglo Saxon heritage which pre-dates Christianity.

Further, only 3 of the 10 commandments are part of our law today: lying, killing and stealing. There's nothing special about this, all societies sanction such wrongs. Lacking any sort of Judeo Christian tradition, these actions would still be against the law.

In addition, there are no US laws commanding people to worship God or honor their parents. There are no US laws prohibiting people from worshiping idols, taking God's name in vain, working on Sunday, lusting after married women or envying the wealth of others. There are few laws prohibiting adultery.

Do you want these included in our statutes? Believe me, that's part of the agenda of the Christian right. The US was never meant to be a theocracy; don't play into the hands of those who would make it one.

The answer to your initial question is a resounding NO.

The Liberals consider it a religious tenant and because of the
separation of Church and State laws they say it should not be
displayed in a public buildings.

Don't blame the ACLU. They will fight both sides of a question.
But not at the same time. Believe it or not it's a matter of ethics.

MERRY CHRISTMAS and have a nice day.

Thank you very much, while you're up.

No way. They all make sense and are very practical to daily life. As for the ACLU, their might be an exception in the Thou Shalt Not Kill thing...:)

I can't think of one thing wrong with them. I can look around at the world we live in and see how much good the Golden Rule would do.

EDIT: Which Church is the government entangling with by posting the 10?

no...the 10 commandment are in Christianity, Judaism, and islam...so it wouldn't be endorsing one religion over another...i think many people or the ACLU is good at making propaganda because of their hatred of all religions...

it says "you shall have no other god before me"...

wouldn't that clearly give the impression that the state was mandating not only religion, but which God was correct...

now, I don't personally disagree with that commandment, but I don't think the state should be promoting which God people should and should not be worshiping... that's my business, thank you very much...
