First, I would look for a source of fresh water. Even tho the island might be small, it could still have a spring. Look for water that is running from land into the ocean, this is usually fresh water. If not, I would try to capture water from plants, or use evaporation to catch water vapor from salt water. All these methods are easily found on the web. Second, I would look for coconuts, green and brown. The green ones have coconut water that you can live on and the brown ones have a coconut in the center like the stuff you get on food, except it tastes better.
I would make a fire, then go spear fishing for fish or try to catch lobster, crabs or other slow moving bottom feeders.
I would then setup 3 fires on the beach (made using the fire bow method which requires no matches) and make the 3 fires about 30 feet apart. I would keep them going during the day and at the first sign of a plane or boat in the horizon, I would smother them with green leaves from palm trees to make them smoke. 3 fires is an international distress signal known by many.
I would build a shelter to keep myself dry in case it rains and I would survey the entire island looking for trash because every island in the world, even the ones that are not inhabited have trash that washed up on shore. I would look for items to make tools, like knives, or an axe. I would look for something to cook in, like a pot. I would look for anything that could be usefull for living. Then, I would start working on a raft.
