If you have Windows, you can do this
1. go to start
2. go to Settings, then Control Panel
3. Click on User Accounts
4. click on Change an Account
5. pick the account you use
6. click on add password
7. make password, and accept

You can set a power on password in the BIOS setup so that you are asked for a password even before Windows even starts. Or you can go into the User Accounts in the control panel and set up a password when Windows starts. If you have very sensitive data on the computer which requires high security do both and set two completely different passwords.

restart your system and enter the bios (Basic Input Output System) set an administrators password but dont forget the pass you can only get back in by restting the bios which you will have to open the tower to do either by popping out the cmos battary out and putting it back in or removing the bios jumper for 15 seconds on the same pin set but move it over one as stated for 15 seconds then move it back and close the pc and restart otherwise just set a user password via control panel

The easiest way to do that is to password protect the BIOS. That way without the BIOS password the computer will not boot to the operating system.

what os are you using? You can set one up by going to control panel, users , enable password etc etc..I forget the exact steps, but you can look for the steps under Windows help if you're running Windows XP.
