Some of the "best" brands (like when people recommend EPT, First Response, etc) have had reports of false positives and not detecting the amount of hCG they claim.

Here is a chart. Get the one with the lowest threshold you can find.

Also click on "HPT Showdown" to see pictures of a real comparison test! I think it's cool to see how they worked for her.

Look at this page, too.

It's about current 'problem tests', batch recalls, etc. Avoid any that have recalls or false positives, and get the lowest threshold (aside from those) from the other chart.

As for early results, if you mean 'test 5 days before your period', read this too.

If you're going to rely on an early-result test (which is nothing more than a normal test with 'early results' printed on the box), find out exactly WHEN you can test. That way you won't be wasting any. That page has a good pictorial representation of why '5 days before your period' isn't what they really mean.

Good luck. Hope you get the answer you want!

Surprisingly, cheap tests purchased at dollar stores or on the Internet are often more sensitive and reliable than expensive store brands. HPT's are like soda: very cheap to make, and marked up quite a bit for retail.

I prefer the "answer" test. Anything that is cheaper because pregnancy tests are the same the only difference is the prices..

The best at home pregnancy tests would probably be EPT or First Response. First Response can test up to 5 days before your period is due. Any generic home pregnancy test should be just as accurate. The most accurate test would be a blood test at your doctor's office. A blood test is more accurate than a urine test.

first day i missed my periods, i used walmart's brand "equate" and it showed up within 3 seconds, when it says it could take up to a minute. other than that, i think a blood test would be the earliest detector.
