Brad, Australia is a country created by it's Indigenous people and taken by the British. But that is another discussion. As for the question, some will say yes and some no. Grosso dived, in my opinion, as most would these days in that situation, however Lucas put himself in a very precarious position. Some referee's would have given it, some wouldn't. Unfortunately for Australia this one did and that was the ball game. Nothing constructive will happen if you cry over spilled milk, you get on with it and make sure it doesn't happen again.
fatto, you watch the game again, it was Lucas Neill not Tim Cahill !!!

You shouldn't be putting pressure on yourself with high expectations for Team Australia. Afterall it is their first experience after a 22 year gap. Brasil is Brasil, so any goal scored against them is an achievement in itself. Croatia are in their 2nd competition but although they progressed to the semis in 1998, they had a very good team then. Their current squad is also quite good considering they beat Argentina recently and topped Sweden in their qualifiers. They will start favourites against the Socceroos. That leaves Japan playing in their 3rd Finals. The Japanese have come a long way since their breakthrough in 1998. They play to standard now, so don't expect them to be pushovers. Australia is generally a good team in Asia, but they lack competitive exposure which is useful for long runs in the World Cup. Treat this tournament as a stepping stone for greater things in Australian football. To answer your question, I don't think the Socceroos will make it to Round 2 but I expect them to give the other teams including Brasil some tough games. 1 point is an achievable and realistic target for their first effort in a generation.

Of course they were, next time they will beat Italy 6-1 and will take the cup home back to Australia like they deserve. The Australians are real strong Men, always have been, anyone could see that.
Italy never really deserved to win any of those 5 times they won not BY A LONG SHOT they always seem to cheat their way to the cup or to second place.
Brasil didn't deserve to win six times either, any ENGLISHMAN worth his bacon knows that in his heart. Those six times were stolen from the UK that is the best team in the world, second only to the Australians!!! But wait for the next games, there'll be REAL showdown and the beasts will shine through, you will see.
it will be:
1) Aussies
2)UK
3)USA
4)Ireland
5)Scotland
6)Canada
7)India
8)Pakistan
9)Hong Kong

Yes indeed the australian soccer team was definately robbed in the World Cup. Australia was playing extremely well; especially their goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer. The azzurris failed to capitalize on a few chances they had earlier in the game. The defender tried to tackle Grosso but missed, and then Grosso was running too fast while he was turning. He did not dive but it was not a penalty.

Absolutely...I can't stand Italy.
At least Australia didn't lose to a crappy team, they lost to the 2006 World Cup champs.
Not bad for a team the has not qualified in forever

Robbed hell no. All the Aussie sports teams are cry babies. Just be glad you made it to Germany. Wat did you expect...to win the World Cup...Italy deserved to win. Yes they play dirty at times but they've had some ledgends... and with all the match fixing scandals that has gone on in that country history repeated itself! Well done Italy.

no they were not. though people may believe that they were unlucky to get the penalty given against them. that does not mean they were robbed. i watched that game and i have to say that italy just edged it and were the better team as they proved by going on to wn the world cup
