If you have a N64 memory card all you have to do is put it in the controler slot and it works. Also if the memory card doesnt work i recomend you rub some alchol on the chip part with a Q tip. (p.s.- not all N64 games need memory cards, mostly sport games need them)

N64 Memory Card

i have played many N64 games and it was my life growing up as a teen. out of all the games i played for the N64, i really never needed a memory card, for any good games that is, some games would demand that you need a memory card, such as "spider man" after watching a cut scene it would ask you to save, then you could turn the game off and put in a completely different card and would be able to continue from where you left off. what i think it really needs the memory card for is just like a computer needs more ram for larger programs and to do more than one thing at once. what i found out to be more important for the N64 was having a "Expansion Pack" which was needed by some games such as "Legend of Zelda: Majoras Mask". the expansion packs would go in the very top of the N64 and can be pried out. the expansion pack is a hard drive and held the O.S.(operating system) of the original N64, and sense Nintendo didn't want to release a hole new system, so they made the hard ware replaceable. then they told people that it was a memory card cause most people just assume it was, because they have no knowledge of how a computer works, and thats what all game systems are, just computers that run programs that were stored on a portable file. I hope this answers all your questions of the N64 and its components.

Pop it into the controller, turn on the game, look for an option that says something like "Load Game" or "Load Settings", highlight it and press A. If you want to save the game then the option shouldn't be too hard to find. Which game are you having trouble with the memory card on?

I don't think they have memory cards. I think the game cartridge saves the game for you. Just like the older Nintendos.
