..so ive known him since 3rd grade and ive liked him since...he calls me his sister and i call him my brother..i don't want to be a sister to him though..he asked me out when i was in 6th grade but i said no...i don't know whether i should tell him or if that would break our friendship

i actually just did this
& well, me and him are still "okay" friends.
so you can do it :)
tell him how you feel
just remember that not everyone you like will like you back
i`m in the 8th grade & i`ve been through plenty or rejection
but i`m still alwaysss happy & moving on from boy to boy =]

Just steer the conversation to relationships some time. Mention all the qualities about him that you like in the context of "Why can't I find a guy that...". Follow-up with something along the lines of "I think I just described you, huh..."

Ypu always could ask him out, and take things slow. If you realize that it isn't right, then your friendship won't be ruined.
